Canon AF35ML (II)

As stated in my previous post on the AF35ML I dislike the fact, that the camera beeps when the light is low. So I tried to cut the beep off. After discovering the position of the signal-giving element I cut off the light brown wire from the solder. The beep is set off! The drive is still loud, but shooting low light is less annoying now.

A picture taken in low light; the 100% crop shows the performance of the lens wide open.

The bokeh is nice too.

Thank you so much for showing which wire to cut! How did you figure it out? I could not locate the buzzer, it was impossible to tell where the sound was coming from.

  2. hey there mate
I'd like to know If you could help me out. I just got one of these "toys", I really like the photos of the af35ml. But mine has some sort of trouble. I got the film inside, shot the first time to let it roll but it is not shooting now =( . It beeps for the flash situations but does not take the picture. I checked batteries and tried to give a better support to it in a way of "maybe it is not shooting to avoid blury pics, let's try a better position". But nothing happened.
hope you can help me out
    thanks, anyway

    1. That sounds to me like a shutter button issue. Maybe the shutter release has no good contact to the camera electrics.

    2. Hi there,
I think I have a similar issue to Pedro. Was happy to dig out the old family point-and-shoot and find out one of these, but it seems to have some issues. I hope you can help, you seem to have some technical understanding and its been impossible to find any reference to the same problem elsewhere.
The camera works in that the battery check, flash ready light and rewind motor all do their job. However, it refuses to load a film, just making a constant beep when the button is pressed. If I depress the rewind release, and wind the cogs back to just before it clicks, then the motor will wind forward to the click again, and then stop and beep again. No shutter release or flash at all. Is it fatal? I'd be glad for any suggestions, not afraid to take it apart... not going to work any less than it does now! Thanks,
      All the best
      Fen

  3. I see that you have taped over the flash pop-up. Any particular reason for that?

    1. That model had an issue with the flash lever, it would pop up of it´s own sometime. So I taped it. My actual ML is not taped.

  4. Hi,
I was wondering, as you seem to know a bit about this sort of thing, if you might know what this is... My AF35 ML, when I pop up the flash, makes an irregular fairly loud clicking sound. I sounds electrical if you know what I mean. I'm a little worried by this because I know flashes capacitors can pack a real punch. Do you know anything about that?

  5. Hi! I have a problem with mine. It seems to work good, shooting the photo and mechanically, but when I reveal the film all the frames are in blank. I used a 200 ISO film roll and adjusted the ISO of the camera in the same number. Thanks in advance!

    1. You should first check if the shutter blades open correctly. Hold the camera with open back against the light and release the shutter. If the blades are sticky, the application of lighter fluid might help (at your own risk!)
Another reason for blank frames might be a faulty film advance. When the film is advanced correctly, the red and white stripes in the small window next to the finder should wiggle. You can check the transport by shooting some frames with an open back. It costs you some frames but you are sure the advance works correct.

  6. My film crank isn't advancing the film. I've opened the top and think it may be a gear issue. Any advice?

  9. Hi! My AF35ML does not have the focus symbols, is it okay to shoot with that?
I tried a roll and the images all turned out blurry, except those when flash is applied.
At the same time, the shutter beeps all the time whenever shooting without flash, any idea what that could mean?
Thanks so much for your help! :-)
